Piccola Hazelnuts
Piccola hazelnuts are small kernels sorted to an 8-9 mm calibre. A smaller kernel takes heat more evenly, so piccola roasts more uniformly than a large nut and eats in a single bite. They come from the same Giresun orchards as our other kernels — the difference is size, not variety.
How to Choose
- 250 g — for snacking and occasional baking.
- 500 g — the economical size for kitchens that bake regularly.
- Ideal if you want to fold whole kernels into batter without chopping.
- For larger kernels, see the Double Roasted Hazelnut Kernels category.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "piccola" mean?
Piccola is the name given to the small-calibre grade. It is not a separate variety — it is the same Giresun hazelnut, sorted at 8-9 mm.
Why do bakers prefer them?
A small kernel spreads evenly through a batter without chopping, so every slice gets its share, and it is less likely to scorch in the oven than a large nut.
